Executive coaching is a formal engagement in which a qualified coach works with an organizational leader in a series of dynamic, confidential sessions designed to establish and achieve clear goals that will result in strong leadership and managerial performance. The work usually bridges both the personal and professional, since we bring all of who we are to all that we do. However, the coaching relationship focuses on professional outcomes.
Above all, the relationship between an executive and a coach is a collaborative one. Together, we assess your circumstances, strengths, weaknesses, and developmental opportunities. We work together to create action plans that are in alignment with your personal goals and the objectives determined by your Board, CEO, or Manager.
After executing the plans, we review the results and define new action plans to further your growth. Throughout this process, the level of benefits you receive from using a coach is directly related to your willingness and ability to take an active role in every aspect of the coaching engagement.
How we begin The initial phase of the coaching engagement is establishing criteria and completing a diagnostic assessment – a baseline picture of your current situation and behavioral dimensions. We begin with a series of three online self-assessments that address: • how you see yourself and how others see you on a day-to day basis (the “bright side” of your personality) • how you tend to behave under extreme pressure (the “dark side” of your personality) • the values and particular motivators that drive you (the “inside” of your personality)
Together, these assessments give us the foundation for an in depth feedback session that clarifies your : • personal strengths that can be leveraged • personal shortcomings that can be improved • integrates your behavioral tendencies into the dynamics and politics of your organization
Our first meeting is to review these assessments in a 2-3 hour session at my office in Manhattan, on the phone, or using tele-conferencing technology.
How we continue One of the benefits to executive coaching is that we work together in many ways: face-to-face, over the phone, by e-mail, and in combinations of these. Meetings are typically between 60 – 90 minutes once a month. In between, we set up weekly phone calls that typically run between 20 – 40 minutes.
As our work progresses, it is likely that we will include further assessments that may include 360 surveys, conflict inventories, emotional intelligence measures, etc. We will work together to understand your personal results, as well as do group work to build a strong working management team.
